Not Your Average Phalange

Welcome to the first installment of Tinger's Corner: Perspectives from Down Below, By a Finger-Length Toe.

I'm Toe-Finger.  Tinger for short.
I'm going to use this first Tinger's Corner entry to tell you a little bit about myself, and my cardinal responsibilities on Nania's Blog.

Full Name: Toe-Finger Young Lee
Nickname: Tinger (People also look at me all the time and say "Eww." But don't get confused.  That is not one of my nicknames.)
Place of Birth: Seoul, Korea
Current Location: Nania's right foot, second toe, digging into carpet of her Ann Arbor apartment.

Suspected Genetic Origin: Paternal. Lots of tallness and longness on that side of the family.

Approximate Length: 2.25 inches (8cm).  Go ahead. Slap your pinky finger on a ruler and tell me I'm not at least close to its length.

Favorite Activities: Pedicures, picking things up and delivering them directly into Nania's hands, poking holes in socks (see above), instilling awe and confusion, long walks through the mall.

Near Death Experience: A few years back Nania's sister, Eunia, was chopping green onions in their mom's kitchen with a long knife... and she lost her grip and the knife came hurling toward the floor.  I can't say any more about it.  I'm not there yet.

Tingerology: It turns out, when a second toe is longer than the first toe, it is called a Morton's Toe, named for Dr. Dudley Joy Morton.  The actual diagnosis states that the second toe is not "too long," it is actually the first toe that is too short.  Interesting.  I would love to hear your thoughts on that.

My Chief Responsibilities on The Nan Stop: Nania is in graduate school, and has been keeping herself busy reading, writing, and socializing with her new classmates.  Thus, when she doesn't have time to write on her blog, I step in.  (Pun intended.)  Also, my areas of interest include travel-writing and beauty-product reviews, as I am often slathered in lotions and painted in various nail-colors.  I also give pretty good advice, so please feel free to leave questions for me in the "Comments" section of this blog at any time.

As you can see, I wear many hats.  Literally.  Here's one of my favorites.

Oh, and please say hello to my neighboring toes: Boe (Big Toe), Thoe (third toe), Foe (fourth toe) and Loe (little toe).  And please excuse our appearance.  There is no room in Nania's graduate school budget for the frequent pedicures to which we have grown accustomed.  But it's worth the sacrifice, because Nania-in-writing-school is the happiest I've seen her in a long time.

Happy Friday!  I look forward to writing for you!

Until next time,
Tinger

  1. I like that Tinger shares the same middle name with both Eunia and Nania. What?? Tinger is 8cm long? Yes, that is longer than the pinky on my hand. As for the Morton's Toe diagnosis - a longer Boe would not make Tinger look any more proportional as compared to Thoe, Foe and Loe. Question - don't you also have a Tinger on your left foot? Is that one not as long? Love the hat!

  2. Tinger has become a bit of a legend, you know. Whenever the conversation turns to toes, generally it comes to, "There was this toe I knew in college..."

(I've missed you, Nan! I'll be happily following your musings!)

  3. Eunia: Yes, Eun Young, Nan Young, Tinger Young. You actually make an astute point in regards to the Morton's Toe issue. Boe is very much in line with the others, and if I actually fold Tinger back out of view, the four remaining toes make a very appealing set, I think. And the second toe on my left foot is longer than B-Loe (big, left toe)... but not to the same freakish degree. The hat is 100% recycled Post-It note, monogrammed by hand. Thanks for your thoughts!

Angela: Welcome to The Nan Stop! And thank you for your narrative contribution to Tinger's legacy! She knew she could count on you! :) I've missed you very much too! Please visit this blog often and put in your two cents! I miss your always insightful feedback and perspective on things. Hope all is well in California!

  6. Hi Mona! Yes, Tinger is out! I'll probably buy her a cheetah coat to celebrate! Thanks for reading :)

Carla: No worries! Tinger has struggled with always accidentally giving "The Middle Tinger." She doesn't mean anything by it. xoxo

  7. I saw an ad for a new, really delicious looking/sounding sandwich from one of my favorite restaurants, Cosi. The sandwich has slow-simmered pulled chicken in a chipotle-spiced tomato sauce layered with guacamole, pico de gallo, crumbled feta cheese and fresh cilantro. You know why I will never order it? Because it is called the "Chicken Tinga Sandwich." And with every bite, I would think I was eating slow-simmered pieces of Tinger. Gross.
